Cold War Related 9/11 Links
The roots of 9/11 are in the Cold War. A decade of conflict in Afghanistan, a raw 
attempt by Soviet forces to dominate the country from 1979 to 1989, gave Islamist 
extremists a rallying point and a training field... the response to Soviet military 
occupation of Afghanistan was and Afghan national resistance movement that defeated 
them. Young Muslims from around the world flocked to Afghanistan to join in the 
fight against the Godless Soviets.

Twenty-three year old Usama Bin Laden arrived in Afghanistan in 1980 to join the 
fight. Thus we can see a connection between the Cold War and 9/11 - with the 
Soviets defeated, Bin Laden turned his jihad against the United States. Many half 
truths and outright myths have grown out of this connection.
